It’s been a long time since I first wrote about Meetup Meetings. I’ve attended NYC Affiliate Marketing Meetup Meeting last night. I’ve been a member of meetup.com and have attended a number of meetings in business and IT topics. Yesterday, only 4 people showed up, including me and the organizer. This is the first time I have had a meetup meeting with a small group like this. Depending on your goal, meetup meeting can be very productive for you. You can generate lots of business, or at least do some networking, and exchange business cards.
If you are a small business owner, you can get frustrated with the work load, and long hours. I’d highly recommend spending some time at social events like Meetup Meetings. You will find a variety of meetup topics from business to social (even singles night out meetups). Even if the meetup meeting you’ve attended is not productive, you will get to see what other business owners are doing, and have a cup of coffee (or a few drinks).
Last night’s meetup was at a coffee shop around Union Square, and it was much better than having it at a bar. Most meetups meet at the bars, and it becomes more a social event than a business networking meeting. You will also see many insurance sellers, consultants to be, and similar trying to sell you their services at meetups. Don’t get discouraged, you will also meet very smart people doing what you are doing. You will definitely have some great experience exchanging some ideas.
Remember the old cliché; “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” Always make the business networking one of your priorities.
