DBSI, Inc. hosted the celebration of International Credit Union Day at their new headquarters in Chandler for CUNA (Credit Union National Association Organization) and their members. “CUNA is a tremendous service organization for local, national and international credit unions dedicated to supporting and improving the lives of their members and families, and the communities where they live,” said DBSI CEO, John W. Smith. “It was an honor to be a part of this celebration and to help them commemorate their contributions and achievements in the past year.”
Since 1948, credit unions from around the world celebrate International Credit Union Day on the third Thursday of October. On this day, they remember their roots in history as well as recognize the achievements and successful efforts of individual credit unions in positively contributing to their members and communities. Branches typically celebrate the day with parades, festivals, contests and open houses.
Lisa Day, Valley of the Sun Chapter of Credit Unions President and Branch Manager at Arizona State Credit Union, presided over the event. Kara Kirschner-Brooks, CUDE, Learning & Development Coordinator for First Credit Union, key note speaker, gave an encouraging talk on the importance of incorporating passion into one’s professional purpose and goals. The attendees also enjoyed an original music video which included clips from more than 40 credit unions and supporting organizations singing “Building a Better World”. The video encouraged branches to raise awareness of the positive impact they continue to make around the world.
We had a wonderful time celebrating International Credit Union Day with a great dinner, special awards and lots of fun,” said Lisa Day, “We are truly grateful to DBSI for joining us in the celebration and hosting it at their wonderful, new Ideation Center.” Awards were presented to those credit unions which excelled in providing assistance to individuals and organizations within their communities, as well as outstanding service to their members. Eighteen credit unions were represented at the event and attendees participated in a variety of activities including simulated golf contests, descending a fireman’s pole and sampling international cuisine from Mexico, Germany, Italy, and China.
