How To Prevent Bed Bugs In An Apartment?

Have you been searching for Bed Bug Infestation Tips that could help you prevent these insects from finding their way into your home, but you can’t seem to find a helpful or effective one? Well, then, you’re in luck. In this article, we’ll be uncovering all the secrets to keeping those destructive creatures out of your home. These tips are simple and easy that anyone can follow. They include:

Put Your Clothes In Bags When You Return Home

After getting home from a public place, the first thing to do is take off your clothes and put them in a bag. Why is it necessary to do this? Well, it’s possible that you could have come in contact with bed bugs in a public place.

Use Bed Bugs Sprays

Another effective bed bug prevention tip is to use bed bug sprays (insecticides). You can buy this spray from your local grocery store.

However, when choosing an insecticide, ensure you pick one that is not toxic or harmful to your health. In case you don’t want to use chemicals, you can create a homemade spray. To do this, all you need is an essential oil like tea tree oil. When bed bugs come in contact with these oils, it kills them. So they try to avoid any trace of it.

You can use this spray on your bags, car, or coat when going to places you suspect could have bed bugs, so they’re not attracted to these items. That way, you can rest assured no bed bug is following you home.

Use Lures

Bed bugs like to bite at night. So using lures is also effective in preventing bed bug bites. Lures mimic a sleeping body (warmth, carbon dioxide, and some of the skin chemicals), so bed bugs mistake them for human skin. Once inside, they’re killed because they can’t climb the smooth sides of the lure. If you want to prevent these bugs from getting into your home, it’s highly advisable to place the lure near a popular entry point, like a crack beneath the front door.

So even if bed bugs are infesting your neighbor’s home, the insects won’t be able to enter your home as they will be stopped and killed by the lure.

Use Traps

Suppose you can’t afford lures, go for traps. Plastic traps are a perfect substitute for lures. They can equally be used to kill off a huge amount of bed bugs.

The way to use them is similar to that of lures. Here, when a bug tries climbing into the bed through the bed frame legs, something gets in its way (the trap). This trap is usually rough on the exterior, and then the inside is smooth and filled with water. So even if the insect climbs the trap’s exterior, they will eventually end their journey in the water-filled interior of the trap. So, they die halfway, unable to do any harm to you.

Importantly, traps are not effective on all species of bed bugs. For instance, tropical bed bugs are well known to climb smooth surfaces easily. As such, the trap won’t work for them. They’d climb out of it.

Use A Mattress Encasement

Mattress encasements are thick plastic coatings that are designed to fit a box spring or mattress perfectly. Since the mattress is the most common place bed bugs love to live in, it’s highly advisable to get a mattress encasement. A mattress encasement could help kill any bed bug lying in your mattress. Another good thing about using this covering is that it can help stop new infestations from reaching your bedding.

Avoid Physical Contact With Bed Bugs

As hard as it is, avoiding physical contact with bed bugs is the most effective way to keep bed bugs away from your home. So if you know someone battling bed bug infestation, the best thing to do is avoid being in contact with them until they get rid of all the bed bugs in their home. No matter how much you love them, you have to do this.

Talk To An Expert

When dealing with bed bugs, an expert’s help is essential. Whether you need information about prevention or treatment, they’re the best to speak to because they were trained in this line. You can ask them to learn about power pest control method. If you don’t know any pest control specialist, you can talk to a family member or colleague.

In conclusion, bed bug infestation comes with a lot of discomfort and stress. Also, getting rid of them is never easy and can even be expensive. So it is advisable to do everything you can to ensure they stay out of your home.
