Supportive leadership is not always effective. For example if you are in some sort of metal industry, you have to lead with power, supportive leadership is not in place. But if you are in a marketing business, supportive leadership is a good way to go.
Some people will disagree with me and say that supportive leadership is always in place. Well yeah, in some way. But supportive leadership is really not so effective if you don’t need great motivation from your workers. For example workers in a production line do not need to be motivated. They need to work and they need to match their daily quota. So supportive leadership is not necessary in that business.
Now how can you become a supportive leader? You need to listen to your people as already said before. In order to support them, you need to know where they need support at and where they don’t. So listen to them, give them some advices and that way they will love you and work for you with 101% of their energy.
